Strategies

1. Look for cognates (words that are similar in English and Spanish). For example, restaurante, hotel, autobús etc.
2. Try to infer or deduce meanings based on context. Use clues in the text. For example,

In Spain, is it more common to travel by train than to travel on the "Carretera". The train ticket can be cheaper than the gas. Here you can guess from the context that "carretera" means highway.

3. Copy phrases that you find in the tourism sites (In the Argentina, Mexico and Spain pages).
4. Use the dictionaries that are on the home page.
5. Have clear goals BEFORE you go into the sites, in other words decide what you are going to look for before you get lost in the world of Olé (this is the Spanish search engine used for country sites).
6. Use circumlocution to express words you don't know. For example, if you don't know the word for highway in Spanish you could say,

Un lugar donde los coches circulan muy rápido para ir de una ciudad a otra ( A place where cars drive very fast in order to go from one city to another).
